Breaking Taboo

Since March 2015, STER Foundation in collaboration with WAGA Association from Gdańsk and Association for Women VICTORIA from Rzeszów has been implementing a project “Breaking Taboo – the Rights of Victims of Sexual Violence”.

The main objective of the project is to raise knowledge and awareness about sexual violence against women, particularly about rape which is experienced by women regardless their age, economic and social status and place of residence. The project consists in conducting quantitative and qualitative research on sexual violence with a diverse group of women in Poland and monitoring new Polish law concerning rape crime persecution which includs in-depth interviews with law enforcement actors (police and prosecutors) and analysis of rape crime sentences.

The outcomes of the research will be presented at the conferences in Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Rzeszów and will be inspiration for a theatre performance which will be shown in one of theatres in Warsaw during 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women.

The project has been implemented from March 1, 2015 to March 1, 2016 within the program Citizens for Democracy financed by EEA Grants. It is coordinated by Agnieszka Grzybek and Magdalena Grabowska who is responsible for research.
